Skirlaugh are Champions
5/20/2007
In a classic game of rugby league Skirlaugh won the NCL Premier League Grand Final are rightly crowned as Champions. Minor Premiers Leigh Miners gave it everything but were beaten by the better side on the day.
It was a typical final - low scoring and tight in defence with only two tries and three attempts on goal. Skirlaugh had taken their first-half opportunities and led 6-0 at the break. A 37th minute try from Full-back Brendan Lewis, converted by Jordan Precious gave them their well-deserved half-time lead
If the first half belonged to Skirlaugh then the second certainly belonged to Miners.
Jordan Precious extended their lead in the 44th minute with a penalty, but a 55th minute try from Miners replacement Dave Bradbury was converted by John Woods and it was game on.
The final few minutes were frantic as Miners gave everything for that winning score and Skirlaugh defended as if ther lives depended on it.
