Siddal nil Dons
3/8/2010
National Conference Premier League Champions Siddal knocked Championship 1 club Doncaster out of the 2010 Carnegie Challenge Cup on Saturday.
The team from Halifax beat the South Yorkshire side 0-26 at the Keepmoat Stadium, and were top-class in every department. The fact that they didn't concede a point speaks volumes for their discipline and commitment on the pitch.
It is the biggest winning margin by an amateur side over a professional club in the Challenge Cup, and they go into the draw for the fourth round next week with a possible Super League club awaiting them.
Elsewhere, there were mixed defeats for the NCL and other amateur clubs. Ovenden lost 10-88 to Halifax, and the Welsh club Blackwood Bulldogs lost 80-6 at Oldham. Warrington Wizards put up a great fight against Swinton, but went down 22-34, whilst the two Leigh NCL clubs Miners and Easts gave brave displays but lost to Whitehaven and Hunslet Hawks respectively. The other NCL club, Wath Brow Hornets lost 52-4 to Leigh Centurions.
Meanwhile Skirlaugh crept into second place of the NCL Premier League beating West Hull 20-8, whilst at the bottom Oulton Raiders lost 6-30 to Hull Dockers, and West Yorkshire club are now 4 points adrift at the bottom and relegation is looming ominously for them.
