Mixed weekend of cup and league games
2/26/2007
Only one game was played in the NCL Premier Division this weekend, with Wath Brow Hornets giving themselves and NCL lifeline with a hard fought 14-8 win over Wigan St. Patricks. There were only 4 NCL games overall, whilst the rest of the teams were on Carnegie Challenge Cup duty.
The match of the Carnegie Cup second round must have been at Thornhill, where the Trojans played host to the rugby league playing Russians Strela Kazan. In a tough, exciting encounter, the locals won 38-20, but the visitors gave everything for 80 minutes and tested Thornhills strength and commitment.
Elsewhere there were wins for NCL teams West Hull (over their neighbours Skirlaugh) and Leigh Miners, whilst Siddal went down to Saddleworth Rangers of Division Two. Oulton Raiders overcame a spirited performance from Leigh East to win 25-10.
But the most notable performance came from Drighlington of The Pennine League who went over to Lancashire and knocked out Division One side Wigan St.Judes 22-30.
In NCL Division One Ince Rosebridge kept up their promotion hopes with a 20-12 win over Thatto Heath, and in Division Two
