Miners win big game
11/26/2007
Leigh Miners Rangers beat East Hull 14-4 to go top of the NCL Premier Division in a tough, uncompromising game.
Both sides were reduced to 11 men in the 56th minute when four players were sent to the sin-bin as the tension finally spilled over. But Miners go top by a point at the end of the weekend.
Skirlaughs game with Thornhill Trojans was postponed, due to the BARLA representative game, and with Leigh East and Wigan St. Patricks both losing (to Hull Dockers and West Bowling respectively), the top two have a 5-point advantage over their rivals.
Indeed Bowling pulled off the shock of the weekend with their 29-0 demolition of St. Pats, and although they are still a good bet for the drop, the win will give them confidence for the coming weeks.
There was a thriller at Chevinedge where Oulton Raiders pipped Siddal 9-10, with a Tom Wheatley penalty two minutes from time.
In the other games, Rochdale Mayfield beat Eastmoor Dragons 32-20 and Castleford Panthers beat West Hull 44-16.
Wigan St.Judes and Bradford Dudley Hill are still neck-and neck at the top of Division One, and Millom and Normanton Knights are still level at the top of Division Two.
