Miners regain top spot

4/8/2007

Last Tuesday Leigh Miners played their catch up game with Siddal in the NCL Premier League and won 34-16 to take them back to the top of the league, moving Skirlaugh back to second place. Then on Saturday they defeated the Dockers 19-16 on Humberside, and with the top 3 teams all having played 25 games now the Miners will be looking to hang on to top spot next week and secure the minor premiership when they play host to Shaw Cross Sharks.

In the GMB National Cup there will be no Premier League teams in the final this year as Ince Rosebridge defeated East Hull 10-8 in a terrific encounter. The last team from the top division of the NCL were beaten by a tough Rosebridge outfit to set up an all-Lancashire final. Simms Cross and Saddleworth contest the other semi-final next weekend.

At the bottom of the NCL Premier League Wath Brow Hornets, Shaw Cross Sharks and Oldham St. Annes will all be relegated even though West Bowling have completed their fixtures - the gap is too wide for the Hornets to make.

In Division One Rochdale Mayfield and Castleford Panthers will be promoted to the top flight next season whilst the third promotion place will be between Wigan St.Judes and Leigh East.
