Frozen Pitches Stop Cups Again

2/1/2010

Just when we thought the weather had finally turned for the better, and the fixture secretaries were breathing a sigh of relief the winter weather returned catching many clubs off-guard.

A handful of cup and league matches managed to beat the weather last weekend, but it still means a massive backlog of cup fixtures going forward.

Only one Carnegie Challenge Cup tie was played, with the RAF running the Warrington Wizards close, going down 24-28.

The BARLA National Cup fared a bit better with Oulton Raiders being run close by Sharlston Rovers, winning 16-8. There was another close tie between Widnes St.Maries and Elland where the Halifax side thought they'd won it with a drop goal on 80 minutes. Only for them to concede a penalty in injury time and the Widnes side won 18-17.

There were no National Conference League Premier Division ties, however there was one Division One match with Bradford Dudley Hill moved up into 3rd and two middle-table Division Two matches.
