Blackwood In Carnegie Round 3
2/15/2010
Welsh amateur side Blackwood Bulldogs are into the third round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup after a convincing 16-28 vicory over Edinburgh Eagles.
The team from South Wales endured an 800 mile round trip to Scotland last weekend and came away with the spoils after a tough opening half, after which they led 12-14. They kicked on in the second half however and go into Tuesdays draw with 11 other amateur clubs and the 20 Championship teams.
There were no real surprises elsewhere in the Carnegie Cup with Leigh Miners beating Hull Dockers 8-28 on Humberside, Siddal winning 34-30 over Oulton Raiders and Wath Brow Hornets defeating East Hull in the other all-NCL-Premier ties.
In the BARLA National Cup, which has had to take a back seat to the Carnegie Cup, West Hull overcame Ince Rose Bridge, and there will be a catch up of the backlogged fixtures next weekend, when the fourth round draw will become a bit clearer.
The only NCL Premier league game saw Widnes St. Maries get 2 very valuable points beating Skirlaugh 36-22 to hoist them just above the drop zone, and in Division One Bradford Dudley Hill continued their promotion push with a 0-64 win away at Heworth.
Division Two leaders Eccles were hammered 70-0 away at Egremont Rangers, who are sitting mid-table, but still stay top.
