Halton Simms Cross defeated Ince Rosebridge to lift the GMB Union National Cup by 23-8. It is the first time that the club have won the trophy, and are well-deserved winners, beating two NCL Premier League teams on the way to the final.

Although they finished runners-up in the regular season competition Skirlaugh overcame Leigh Miners by 18-10 to be the first team to this seasons Grand Final. Minor Premiers Leigh Miners will be bitterly disappointed to lose this game having beaten their Humberside counterparts in both their league encounters this season (See Head-to-head encounters).

There were only two games in the NCL Premier League play-off series this week and both were on Humberside as West Hull entertained their local rivals the Dockers and east Hull hosted Wigan St. Patricks.

East Hull won their last two NCL Premier League fixtures to promote them to third in th efinal league table and give them a kick start into the play-off series. Victories over Wigan St. Patricks and Oulton Raiders lifted them above their Humberside rivals West Hull and the Dockers and they now have a home tie against st. Pats next weekend, where they must start as favourites.

Leigh Miners took the NCL Premier League minor premiership with a 44-14 win over relegated Shaw Cross Sharks. The match was much closer than the final scoreline indicated, and it was only 4 tries in the last 15 minutes that the Sharks couldn't respond to that made it look so easy.

Last Tuesday Leigh Miners played their catch up game with Siddal in the NCL Premier League and won 34-16 to take them back to the top of the league, moving Skirlaugh back to second place. Then on Saturday they defeated the Dockers 19-16 on Humberside, and with the top 3 teams all having played 25 games now the Miners will be looking to hang on to top spot next week and secure the minor premiership when they play host to Shaw Cross Sharks.

It was an awful afternoon for the NCL league leaders Leigh Miners on Saturday, when their visitors from East Hull paid them a visit and turned them over by 26-0, returning to Humberside with both points and leaving the Miners shell-shocked.

Simms Cross make the headlines again this week as they knocked NCL Premier League leaders Leigh Miners out of the GMB National Cup at the Quarter Final stage by 32-12. In what was expected to be a close affair it was Simms Cross who ran away with the game in the second half.

North West Counties Champions Simms Cross, dumped the Hull Dockers out of the GMB National Cup on Saturday, with a 26-18 victory showing that not all the best rugby is guaranteed in the NCL. This earns them a trip to Leigh Miners Rangers in a fortnights time. All other GMB Cup games were postponed due to the weather.
